The previous record of 1,721 players was rather short-lived as it was set just three weeks before on Jin Kansas City, Kansas, United States. That event was organized by Guitar World Record. The record was set on Jin Leinfelden, Germany (near Stuttgart). According to a posting on the DEEP PURPLE fan site The Highway Star, Guinness World Records has officially confirmed the new record for the "Largest Guitar Ensemble" with 1,802 players performing the PURPLE classic "Smoke on the Water".
